The Moon Thieves <盜月者> (styled as The Moon Thi4v3s) marks (Steve) Yuen Kim-Wai’s return to feature filmmaking since the erratic Legally Declared Dead <死因無可疑> four years ago.
So, how do you top the surprise hit of Table for Six <飯戲攻心> which went on to become the third highest-grossing Hong Kong movie ever made? The predominantly single-location comedy, which was released during the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2022, amassed a whopping HK$77.3 million (!).
While the attention mostly goes to Aaron Kwok de-glamorising himself to play a buck-toothed criminal, I’m more interested in Albert Mak (Kai-Kwong) being the director of Rob N Roll <臨時劫案>.
In less than a month, we are treated to double doses of Andy Lau, beginning with The Goldfinger <金手指> at the end of 2023 and now, I Did It My Way <潛行>. The latter also marks the return of cinematographer-turned-director Jason Kwan, who proved his worth as a co-director alongside Wong Jing in the entertaining Chasing the Dragon <追龍> and Chasing the Dragon II: Wild Wild Bunch <追龍II: 賊王>.
