The 41st Hong Kong Film Awards have revealed its winners as Wai Ka-Fai’s Detective vs Sleuths <神探大戰> brought home four awards including Best Director, Best Actor (Lau Ching-Wan), Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography.
The Sparring Partner <正義迴廊>, the Category III courtroom-drama sensation that scored a whopping 16 nominations, could only muster two wins including Best New Director for Ho Cheuk-Tin and Best Film Editing. Warriors of Future <明日戰記> and Where the Wind Blows <風再起時> were the second biggest winners of the night with three awards each. The former won Best Action Choreography, Best Sound Design and Best Visual Effects while the latter secured Best Costume Design, Best Art Direction and Best Supporting Actor for Michael Hui.
As for the Best Actress category, Sammi Cheng finally won her long-overdue award for Lost Love <流水落花> while Mabel Cheung and William Kwok (Wai-Lun)’s controversial documentary To: My Nineteen-Year-Old Self <給十九歲的我> scored the top prize for Best Film.
